Grid Simulator FAQ
What is the Virya Grid Simulator?
A day in a five-bus power market, solved in your browser. Built on the PJM 5-bus test system, it commits units, then runs security-constrained economic dispatch (SCED) for each hour and explains congestion, losses and the price at every bus, step by step.
What is a locational marginal price (LMP)?
The cost of serving one more megawatt-hour at one point on the grid. It has three parts: the energy price, the cost of congestion and the cost of losses. When a line hits its limit, cheap power cannot reach some buses, so prices there rise. The simulator shows each part for every bus and hour.
What can I change?
Generators (cost, capacity and outages), load and its daily shape, solar, a battery, a data center load, and line limits and outages. Each run is solved again and the explanation updates hour by hour.
Is the Grid Simulator free?
Yes. It opens after a one-time email check: enter the 6-digit code sent to your inbox, and the browser stays signed in for 7 days across all Virya sites. Signed-in readers can also request a PDF of a scenario, reviewed before it is emailed.
